Today is the first day of Spring, and aside from hopes of warmer weather, rainbow-colored eggs and the smell of cherry blossoms in bloom, it is also time for the reawakening of some rather irritating pests. One of the first to emerge is the invasive and ceaselessly motivated ant. There are plenty of ways to combat these incessant creatures, but here is one surefire recipe to ward them off for good!
What you will need:
- Presco Flagging tape
- Tanglefoot (Insect Barrier)
- Disposable paint brush
How to apply:
- You will want to begin the process in the morning before ants become active
- Shake the tree to knock off any ants that may already be present.
- Wrap bottom of the tree trunk with flagging tape (which stretches) just below first branches
- Wrap it around the trunk in an upwards manner creating an overlapped pattern.
- You will want to wrap the tape around the trunk to about 3-4 inches wide.
- Pull the end of tape under the last loop and pull tightly to cinch.
- Coat flagging tape with a thin layer of Tanglefoot.
- Be careful not to get any Tanglefoot on the bare trunk
- Leave the top and bottom edge clean.
Caution: You never want to apply the Tanglefoot directly to the tree as it will cause the trunk to be sunburned and split.
With Presco’s durable and long-lasting flagging tape on the job and Tanglefoot’s effective formulation, your orchard will flourish throughout the season.
