Sorry Kermitt, but it is easy to be green at Presco!  That’s because vinyl is actually very easy to recycle.  Here at Presco, we recycle all of our production generated scrap back into our products.  Not only does Presco film stay out of the landfills, we also purchase other vinyl manufacturer’s postindustrial scrap so that it doesn’t get tossed into the landfills either.

In the last 5 years, over 13 million lbs. of vinyl film has been recycled back into Presco vinyl.  That’s more weight than 60 Boeing 757 airplanes!

Postindustrial refers to scrap generated during production and is discarded by the manufacturer.  It might have been too thick, too thin or fail to meet other specifications.  Post-consumer scrap refers to scrap generated by consumers.  The plastic bottle that you and I throw in the recycling trash can is considered post-consumer.  Presco isn’t able to regenerate post-consumer scrap due to contamination concerns.  The smallest piece of non vinyl material can cause havoc if it enters our regrind stream.

How can Presco Engineered Film help our customer’s promote the green side of vinyl?

Our development team will evaluate the required specifications of each formulation and determine if outside regrind is possible.  If so, adding outside regrind is a great way to reduce your cost and to promote the recycled content of the film you are purchasing.  There is no sacrifice to the quality of our film by having regrind content.  It makes monetary and environmental sense – a combination we all seek.  We make it easy for our customers to feel good environmentally about the vinyl film they purchase from Presco and Presco.
